    It's the Surge, Stupid

Your Daily Politics Video Blog: If you're desperate to be John McCain's vice presidential nominee, you better get on TV and start talking up the Surge as the single most important issue in this year's presidential campaign.  And if you're serious about getting picked it wouldn't be a bad idea to say John McCain invented the idea of the surge and maybe even coined the word.  In today's episode of TPMtv we check in on some of the wannabes to see just how bad they want it.

    Real American?

Your Daily Politics Video Blog: It's been a slow burn up until now but it seems like the McCain surrogates are finally starting to pick up steam in their efforts to brand Barack Obama as un-American. We take a closer look in today's episode of TPMtv.

  • Muslim votes

POSTED BY MARC BOXSER, FEBRUARY 13 2008 02:46 PM | PERMALINK

It is interesting that, certainly in the democratic primaries, the ethnicity of the electorate has come so much into play- hispanics seem to favor Hillary, African American's Barack Obama- with pollsters and pundits now scrambling to figure out the ethnic make up of places like Hawaii and Wisconsin. With Muslim's numbering between 2 and 7 million in this country, it seems sad that in an election where every candidate is running around trying desperately to show their ethnic credentials, Muslims and...

Or, Where Campaign Donations Go When the Candidate Drops Out

With a primary or caucus nearly every week, the presidential field is thinning – but the candidates’ penny banks are nowhere near empty. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan campaign finance watchdog group, by the end of September, the 2008 presidential candidates set aside over $33.6 million for the general election. But that’s a race only two of them will see; the rest will be left to pack up their offices, kiss...

  • Giuliani to Endorse McCain

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 30 2008 05:29 PM | PERMALINK

While the other GOP candidates gather for the last Republican debate before Super Tuesday, Giuliani will be packing up his presidential candidacy bags and heading home. On the way, he's lending his support to McCain:

As was the plan even before Rudy Giuliani's Florida firewall turned to ash, the former mayor will board a plane to California Wednesday morning.

But, sources told ABC News, once there, instead of participating in the Republican debate, he will drop out of the presidential race and...

  • McCain: Front Runner

POSTED BY MARC BOXSER, JANUARY 29 2008 09:58 PM | PERMALINK

ABC calls it- tomorrow Giuliani drops out and endorses McCain. In his victory speech McCain invoked Reagan and speaks highly of his oponents. One question- if McCain is the GOP front runner going into Super Tuesday, is this good or bad for Obama? I think good for Obama- dems think that a divisive figure like Clinton will hemorrhage independents to the GOP, and risk losing what looks like a sure fire Democrat victory.

Many dems are talking about this as an opportunity to create a lasting Democratic...

  • Giuliani: "Our Strategy Has Kinda Worked Out"

He's gone from "I'll win Florida" to "we'll get a strong showing." And he's been beat by Ron Paul two times already. Proving that, at the very least, the Texas M.D. should take a shot at Gracie Mansion.
